‘Maps to the Stars’ racconta gli eccessi di Hollywood, con un cast nel quale spiccano Julianne Moore,che recita nel ruolo di un’attrice isterica e Mia Wasikowska nei panni di una misteriosa giovane donna coperta di cicatrici,che appare all’improvviso nella sua vita.

 Ma il film segna anche la prima volta in cui Cronenberg,conosciuto per ‘History of Violence’ ed ‘Eastern Promises’ ha fatto un film su Hollywood.Lui stesso aveva più volte ribadito di voler fare da un decennio un film basato sulla sceneggiatura del romanziere Bruce Wagner.

 ‘‘Non sono mai stato così ossessionato all’idea di girare un film,di realizzare questo film,come in questo caso,anche se lo script non è quello che mi ero ripromesso. Durante la realizzazione di un film si istaura quel mix di ambizione,paura e disperazione’’ lui ha detto.

 Il film inoltre segna la réunion tra Cronenberg e la star di ‘‘Cosmopolis’’ Robert Pattinson.che il regista ha definito un attore eccellente.

 ‘‘Quando abbiamo girato Cosmopolis,non voleva farlo perché il suo personaggio era presente in ogni scena. Voleva stare su un set in cui fosse contornato da un grande cast di attori’’ ha detto Cronenberg. ‘‘Gli ho detto,ne abbiamo parlato ed ora ecco realizzarsi ciò che volevi. Ho il ruolo perfetto per te.’’

"Maps to the Stars" takes aim at Hollywood excess, with an ensemble cast including a bleach-blond Julianne Moore playing a hysterical actress and Mia Wasikowska playing the mysterious, scarred young woman who suddenly appears in her life.

Although it marks the first time Cronenberg, known for "A History of Violence" and "Eastern Promises," has made a film about Hollywood, he said he has been trying to make the movie — based on a script by novelist Bruce Wagner — for a decade.

"I've never really been obsessed with doing a movie about movie-making or anything like that, but in a way his script was not that. It's about ambition and fear and desperation and a whole bunch of other things within the context of movie-making," he said.

The film reunites Cronenberg with "Cosmopolis" star Robert Pattinson, who the director called "a terrific actor."

"When we did 'Cosmopolis,' he didn't really want to do it because his character was in every scene. He really wanted to be in an ensemble piece, where he was one of a great cast of actors," said Cronenberg. "I said, 'We talked about that and here it is. Here's a perfect role for you.'"
